TWO men were set upon by a gang in an unprovoked attack the early hours.

The victims, aged 21 and 25, were assaulted by a group of seven or eight men near the Honest Politician pub in Elm Grove, Southsea.

The gang were all white and dressed in smart, casual clothes. One may have had a beard.

Now police are appealing for witnesses to the attack, which happened at about 12.30am on Sunday.

PC Jodie Lawford, investigating, said: ‘This appears to be unprovoked and occurred as the two men were simply walking home after enjoying an evening out.

‘One suffered a suspected broken nose and black eyes.’

She added: ‘This is a busy road and it’s likely that there were people in the area at the time who may have seen something.

Call PC Lawford at Fratton station on 101.
