A PENSIONER had to be taken to hospital with back injuries after a car was speeding across a residential area.

The 64-year-old woman lost her balance and fell badly after the car whizzed past her as she crossed Eagle Avenue, near Rachel Madocks School, Cowplain.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene and the woman was taken by ambulance to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, for treatment.

The woman, from Waterlooville, was later discharged.

Police are now keen to track down the speeding driver, who was driving a dark-coloured car southwards at about 6.15pm last Wednesday.

The woman was not able to tell police what the make or model was.

PC Steve Wootton, from Fratton Roads Policing Unit, said: ‘We don’t believe the car hit this lady, but it passed her at such speed it caused her to fall over, sustaining an injury to her back. I am looking to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen a dark coloured car being driven at speed.’ Call 101.
