DETECTIVES are seeking to find a car that is believed to have been used as part of a terrifying robbery in Petersfield.

Four men, wearing balaclavas or face masks, entered the jewellers in Rams Walk armed with tools and threatened staff before stealing a large amount of jewellery.

It is believed another man was waiting outside.

A fresh line of inquiry is finding a second car, described as a blue Jeep Cherokee, which is believed to be linked with the planning of this crime and the suspects.

The suspects wore dark-coloured clothing.

The offenders left the scene in a silver Peugeot 406, which then crashed with a marked police car driven by officers who were responding to the incident.

The police car ended up on its roof, but the officers were not seriously hurt.

Following the crash in Tilmore Gardens, the offenders ran off towards the A3.

The incident happened at about 4.30pm on Thursday.

Detective Inspector Justin Torgout said: ‘A dedicated investigation team is pursuing many promising leads about the identities and actions of suspects.’
