POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an attempted burglary at a shop in Southsea.

The break-in took place at the rear of the Subway shop in Palmerston Road between 3.30am and 4am on Saturday, August 27.

Nothing was reported stolen, but a possible suspect was described as male of slim build. He was seen wearing a grey and pale green hooded coat, dark tracksuit trousers and brown footwear.

PC Dan Neligan said: ‘It appears whoever was responsible used the alleyway that runs between Osborne Road to Villiers Road to the rear of the shops in Palmerston Road.

‘Were you in the area at around the time of the break in? or do you live near the scene of the crime? Did you see or hear anything suspicious between 3.30am and 4am on Saturday? If so, I would like to hear from you.

‘I would particularly like to speak with the driver of a dark coloured Y registration vehicle, believed to be a Ford, which was seen in the area at around the time the burglary took place. This driver may be able to assist me with my enquiries.’.
