POLICE have handed four suspected illegal immigrants over to the UK Border Agency.

As previously reported, the boys – a 15-year-old, two aged 16 and a 17-year-old – were arrested on Tuesday after bringing the M27 to a standstill in a dramatic police chase.

The boys – thought to be from south-east Asia – ran onto the carriageway near junction nine shortly before midday. They had fled from an articulated lorry that was delivering to Power Technique Ltd in Concorde Close, Segensworth after the driver raised the alarm.

Police had to put a rolling road block in place for more than an hour as the boys made a desperate bid for freedom.

Three were arrested at the scene shortly before 1pm.

The fourth boy was later caught nearby. They were taken into police custody where they were quizzed on suspicion of entering the country illegally.

However they have now been passed into the care of the UK Border Agency who will continue to investigate the incident.
