DETECTIVES have released this image of the suspected getaway car they want to trace in connection with a violent robbery at a building society.

The CCTV picture was captured showing the dark-coloured BMW 1 Series turn from West Street into Trinity Street, Fareham, shortly after the armed robbery at Nationwide at about 11.35pm on Tuesday.

Up to three people were involved in the raid on the West Street building society which happened as a pair of security guards were at the branch’s outside ATM.

They were forced onto the ground by the tool-wielding thugs who then smashed their way into the branch and made off with a large amount of cash.

Detective Sergeant Ross Toms, who is leading the investigation, said: ‘We believe there were at least three offenders involved in this incident and they made off in a dark blue or black BMW 1 series.

‘This car was last sighted at the Quay Street roundabout in Fareham at around 11.35pm on Tuesday, and what we need to do now is establish its movements before and after this time.

‘I would appeal to people to look at this image and see if they remember seeing this vehicle in the area around the time of the robbery.

‘Any piece of information they have, no matter how small it may seem, could be crucial to our investigation.’

Anyone with any information should contact Fareham CID on 101 or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555111.
