POLICE hope this picture will help them track down a man who snatched a handbag from an 83-year-old woman.

As previously reported, the victim was visiting a relative’s address in Derby Road, North End, Portsmouth, and was walking through a cut-through into Stanley Road, Stamshaw, when she was approached from behind.

The robber grabbed her bag which contained £200 cash from the top of her shopping trolley.

But the victim was holding on to the bag at the time and was pulled to the ground, hitting her head and hip.

The robber then got into a white van and fled, heading towards Twyford Avenue in Stamshaw at 11.15am on December 20.

The woman was left shaken by her ordeal and suffered minor injuries.

Now police have issued this image of a man driving a white van which they believe was involved in the incident.

The white Citroen Berlingo van with the word Buchanan written on the side was reported as being stolen from Links Lane, Rowlands Castle, on the same day the robbery happened.

The van was found in Bedhampton the following day.
