A SECOND prisoner has died inside Winchester prison in the space of two months.

The Ministry of Justice confirmed Jason Payne, 40, from Farnborough, was found unresponsive in his cell on August 17.

A spokesman said: ‘Staff tried to assist him but he was pronounced dead at 11.25am on the same day.

‘As with all deaths in custody there will be an investigation by the independent prisons and probation ombudsman.’

An inquest has now been opened.

It comes after Daryl Hargrave, from Agnew Family Centre, in Gosport, was found dead in the same prison last month.
