AN INTERNAL investigation has been launched after the body of a woman who went missing from a mental health unit was washed up on the shore.

As previously reported in The News, a 63-year-old woman, named locally as Jo Osborne, had been staying at the Hawthorn Unit, in Locksway Road, Milton.

She went missing on Saturday, before police discovered her body at 10.50pm in Eastney, near the Royal Marines Museum.

Judy Hillier, director of nursing and quality for Solent NHS Trust, which runs the unit, said: ‘There is an ongoing police investigation regarding one of our patients, who went missing from Hawthorn – an open unit that provides care to people experiencing acute episodes of mental illness.

‘While we are unable to provide any further detail, we can confirm we are conducting our own internal enquiries.’
