Desmond Okojie was found guilty of two counts of possessing class A drugs, cocaine and heroin, with intent to supply.

The 18-year-old was jailed for three years and six months at Portsmouth Crown Court by judge Ian Pearson.

The court heard Okojie wanted to compete in the Olympics but his dreams have ‘wiped out’ after he was caught.

Okojie had travelled to Portsmouth from London.

He was caught with the drugs and £380 in cash in St Mary’s Road, Fratton, on July 1 last year.

He pleaded not guilty but was convicted after a trial.

Judge Pearson said Okojie, of Woolf Close, London, should have pleaded guilty.

He said: ‘You were a street dealer for these types of class A drugs.

‘You had some knowledge of the operation, the scale and were motivated by financial gain.’

He added: ‘The evidence against you was very strong indeed. You now agree that you were indeed guilty but sadly I cannot give you any credit.’

An early guilty plea would have meant he received a third off his sentence.

The court heard Okojie is a Nigerian national who had been refused indefinite leave to remain in the country.

The judge ordered the cash be forfeited and destroyed. He said immigration was a Home Office matter.
