MEAT thief Darren Elston has been jailed.

The 45-year-old, of Ashley Close, Havant, stole £135.15 of meat from Tesco in Cosham on September 1.

Portsmouth magistrates jailed him for 28 days.

He admitted breaching a conditional discharge for theft and was handed a 28-day concurrent sentence.

Elston was handed 14 days in jail after admitting breaching post-release supervision requirements.

No compensation was ordered because he was sent to jail.
