Knife-point robbery in Portsmouth

A masked man walked into Spar, in St Mary’s Road, Fratton, this morning before demanding cash from the workers.

He waited until shoppers left before approaching the counter in the incident at 8.10am.

The thief made off with £50 from the till.

Hampshire police said he was wearing a hoodie and balaclava.

A spokeswoman said he got into a black car parked in Cuthbert Road and then drove off the wrong way in the road.

Temporary Detective Sergeant Rich Gibson said: ‘Fortunately this type of robbery is not common and the two store assistants were not injured, however we take this sort of incident extremely seriously.

‘We have got an increased police presence in the area today, conducting enquiries, however we would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw a car being driven the wrong way along Cuthbert Road this morning, to call us.’
