DRINK-driver Paul Gailer has been banned from getting behind the wheel.

The 43-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Volkswagen Passat at Gunwharf Road, Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, while more than twice the legal alcohol limit on June 28.

A test revealed Gailer’s breath contained 83 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Gailer, from Knowle Avenue, Knowle, near Fareham, was fined £450 at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

He was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs and £15 into a fund for victims of crime.

Magistrates banned Gailer from driving for 20 months.

But the ban could be reduced by five months on the condition that he pays for and successfully completes a government-approved driving course by August 5, 2012.
