A NEW chairman has been elected to steer Hampshire Police Authority through its final five months of existence.

Councillor Adrian Collett, who joined the organisation in 2000 and was formerly vice chairman, was unanimously elected and will be in office until the authority ceases to exist in November and a police and crime commissioner is elected.

Cllr Collett said: ‘Notwithstanding my own opinion of the changes, over the next few months we will work hard to ensure the Police and Crime Commissioner inherits a financially strong and efficient police force, and equally strong policing governance.’
