TEEN racing driver Noel Breakspear led police on a chase around an estate after being spotted driving his van illegally.

The 19-year-old, of Hermitage Close, Leigh Park, drove at more than 30mph and at times more than 40mph through the estate, just after 6pm on December 10 last year.

Portsmouth Crown Court heard yesterday that the van is in Breakspear’s name because he was hoping to pass his test soon in order to help his family because both his parents and two younger sisters are unwell.

However he was not insured and had not yet passed his test.

Breakspear has won a number of awards for racing at Horndean Speedway Track.

The chase around the estate lasted four minutes until the vehicle ploughed into a verge and the wheels got stuck.

He admitted dangerous driving, driving without a valid licence and driving without insurance.

He was given a 12 month community order and disqualified from driving for a year. He must pay a £200 fine and a £60 victim surcharge.
