Leigh Park van driver in court after Christmas Day crash told to pay £1,200

MAGISTRATES have told a van driver to pay more than £1,200 after a crash.

Joe Stanhope, 29, of Liverpool Road, Fratton, Portsmouth, admitted careless driving and failing to stop after a crash in Barncroft Way, Leigh Park, on Christmas Day last year.

Portsmouth magistrates sentenced Stanhope after he pleaded guilty this summer to the offences.

He was fined £650 for failing to stop, and £225 for the careless driving in his Ford van.

Stanhope must also pay £225 compensation, a £65 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Nine points were imposed on his licence at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

His guilty pleas were taken into account when he was sentenced.
