PORTSMOUTH’S new Lord Mayor will be formally elected at a ceremony.

The city’s mayor-making ceremony will take place at the Guildhall on Tuesday, May 19 at 10am.

Councillors will make nominations before voting to decide who will hold the role for the next year.

The ceremony will also see the newly elected Lord Mayor present eight civic awards to members of the community who have made outstanding contributions to the city’s life.

The award recipients are nominated by councillors and receive a badge and certificate.

Residents are invited to attend and free tickets are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Tickets can be reserved by calling (023) 9283 4109 or emailing events@portsmouthcc.gov.uk
