Major drink-drive campaign launched by police

POLICE have launched their annual drink-drive campaign.

Each year Hampshire police holds a crackdown during the Christmas period.

Already three people have been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, police said.

On Twitter Hampshire Roads Policing said: ‘Busy start to annual Christmas Drink Drive campaign.

‘Three arrested by Eastern RPU officers on nights.’

The number of people breath tested across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight during the campaign last year was 7,606, an increase on the 6,918 in 2014.

The number of arrests across the area increased as well from 195 in 2014 to 215 in 2015.

The crackdown, called Operation Holly, runs each December to the end of the year.
