WOULD-BE bike thief Charlie Darling has been told to stay in at night under a curfew.

The 19-year-old was caught trying to steal a £350 bike at Swanwick railway station, near Fareham.

He pleaded guilty to attempted theft when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

He also admitted a charge of criminal damage after breaking the £25 lock on the bike.

Darling was ordered to stay at home in Moore Crescent, Netley Abbey, Southampton, between 5pm and every day for two months.

He will have to wear an electronic tag during that time.

The court did not order him to pay compensation to the owner of the bike for the damage to the lock because he has no means to pay.
