MAGISTRATES have ordered a man who assaulted two police officers to get help for his drink problem.

Nicholas Hatherley assaulted PC Allan Cameron after police were called to his flat in Corhampton House, Church Road, Portsmouth on October 8.

The 20-year-old was taken to Portsmouth Central police station, in Winston Churchill Avenue, where he assaulted PC Kevin Burnard.

Hatherley pleaded guilty to two charges of assaulting a police officer in the execution of his duty when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

He was given a 12-month community order which will include taking part in six education, training and employment sessions.

He will also have to have 12 sessions of alcohol awareness classes.

The court ordered Hatherley to pay £100 in compensation to PC Burnard.

PC Cameron was not awarded compensation because he was not injured.

Hatherley was also told to pay £85 in costs.
