SHOPLIFTER Thomas Buchanan has been given a conditional discharge.

Buchanan, 26, of Hampshire Terrace, Southsea, pleaded guilty to stealing £25.17 of cleaning goods from the Co-op on The Hard, Portsea, Portsmouth.

He was given a three-month conditional discharge when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

Buchanan was ordered to pay £40 in court costs.

He admitted failing to surrender to custody.

However magistrates decided to impose no separate penalty for the offence.
