A MAN was punched and kicked by a gang of thugs as he walked home.

The 27-year-old was in Fratton Road, near St Mary’s Road and Manor Road, Portsmouth, when he was set upon by six to eight men.

They attacked him and tried to steal his phone.

The injuries he suffered during the incident, which happened at 6pm last Friday, were not considered serious.

Three men, aged 18, 20 and 26, were arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery.

They were questioned by officers and bailed until the final week of this month.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Pete Bambury said: ‘This was a horrible attack on a man making his way home.

‘The area is usually busy with people walking by and cars driving past.

‘I am hoping that someone may have seen something that can help the investigation.’

Anyone with information should contact CID at Fratton police station by calling 101.
