A MAN has appeared in court over alleged historical sex offences against children.

Andrew Hocking is charged with raping and indecently assaulting a 12-year-old girl at his former home in Fareham between 1982 and 1984.

The 57-year-old, who now lives in Copthorne, West Sussex, was also charged in November last year with 11 counts of making indecent images of children between 1997 and 2011, one of possessing an extreme pornographic image in 2011, and four of indecent assault against a seven-year-old girl in Alveston, Gloucestershire, between 1976 and 1977.

Hocking appeared at Lewes Crown Court and was released on bail for a plea and case management hearing on December 22.

The charges against Hocking were authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service following an investigation by the Paedophile Online Investigation Team of Sussex Police.

There are no other allegations of contact offending and none of the images are believed to be of local children, police said.
