Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed with a broken bottle outside a takeaway.

It is alleged a man was abusive towards a 25-year-old Fareham man waiting in a queue at the Grill and Chicken takeaway in Palmerston Road, Southsea.

Moments later, the victim was stabbed with a broken bottle.

He received injuries to his neck and arm, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police on patrol nearby intervened and arrested a man, also aged 25 and from Fareham, on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.

It happened shortly before 1am yesterday.

He was questioned and bailed until September 2, pending further enquiries.

Officers would now like to hear from anyone who has information about the incident.
