Man arrested after '˜kidnap victim thrown into sea' at Southsea

Hampshire police said a 35-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of kidnap and is being questioned.

It comes after police last week appealed for information following the alleged incident on Sunday, February 28.

The force said the alleged victim was taken from his home in Beach Road, Southsea, before the kidnappers tried to get him to withdraw cash from a machine.

At the time of the appeal a spokeswoman said: ‘It is alleged that three men targeted a house in Beach Road and assaulted the 59-year-old victim before demanding money from him.

‘The men drove the victim in a three-door light-grey Peugeot 206 car to a cash point machine in St Catherine’s Street, where they attempted to withdraw money from his bank account.

‘After being unsuccessful in their attempt to get cash from the cash point, the men drove the victim to a car park on Long Curtain Road, Clarence Esplanade.

‘At this location the suspects threw the victim into the sea.

‘The man received minor injuries during the abduction.

‘CCTV shows the suspects entered the car park in the Peugeot 206 on Long Curtain Road at 3.09am and left at 3.23am.’
