Man arrested for drug offences after driver dies in Hampshire car crash

POLICE have named a man who was killed in a car accident in Hampshire – and have arrested the other driver for drug-driving. 

Officers were called at 2.51pm yesterday following reports that a Fiat Doblo and a Volkswagen Crafter collided on the A31 at the junction with the A272 Petersfield Road.

Eulogio Sanchez Candal, 72, of Hinckes Road, Wolverhampton, was driving the Fiat and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

The Fiat’s passenger was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

The driver of the Volkswagen, who was uninjured, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

The 22-year-old from Southampton has been released from custody but remains under investigation.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who was driving on either the A272 or A31 at this time and saw the collision take place at this junction.
