A 66-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after police discovered a stash of Class B drugs in his car.

The man, who is from Kent, was driving along Marketway, Landport, Portsmouth, between 6.44am and 8.15am on New Year’s Eve when his Vauxhall was pulled over and searched.

Police arrested him at the scene on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs. Detectives are examining what the drugs were and how much was seized.

The man has been released on bail until April 3 pending further enquiries.

Later that evening a house in Sandown, Isle of Wight, was searched. An unknown quantity of drugs was seized but it is unknown whether the operation was connected to the arrest.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘A vehicle was stopped on Marketway in Portsmouth. The car was searched under The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. A man was arrested and he was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs.

‘The subsequent search took place at an address in Sandown on the Isle of Wight later the same day. Suspected drugs were seized at this address. These substances are being analysed.’
