Man arrested for making threats to kill after armed police are called to Portsmouth street

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill after an incident which saw armed police called to a Portsmouth street.

Residents were urged to stay inside their homes after the commotion erupted in Cyprus Road, Buckland, at 8pm yesterday.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire Constabulary said the man who was arrested, aged 39 from Portsmouth, remains in custody.

She confirmed officers with firearms were called to respond to the incident.

One woman, who asked not to be named, said the drama sparked a large police presence.

‘I came outside to get into my car but was told by a police officer to go back into the house and remain inside,’ she said.

‘We stayed inside and watched TV as I didn't want my kids to see anything that was going on.'
