POLICE are urging witnesses to come forward after a man was assaulted and robbed in Derby Road, North End today.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘At around 2am, the victim was sat on a bench near the post office waiting for a friend, when he was approached by four men who demanded that he hand over his phone.

‘They then proceeded to punch, kick and stamp on him before stealing his phone and running off.’

The four suspects were described as black, ranging in age from a teenager up to mid-30s.

The victim was treated for cuts and bruises to both sides of his head and grazes to both arms. Anyone with information can telephone Det Con Higgins of Fratton CID on 101.
