Man beaten up by gang in late-night Portsmouth attack

A 22-YEAR-OLD man was repeatedly punched in a late-night gang attack.

The victim was followed by up to five men from the Guildhall area of Portsmouth to Anglesea Road, Park Road and Burnaby Road near Gunwharf Quays where he was attacked at about 3.20am.

Police say the man was repeatedly punched.

An ambulance attended the scene and treated him for a swollen eye and bruising around his mouth.

Now police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch.

PC Ben Light, who is investigating the incident, said: ‘This was an unprovoked attack on a lone man who was walking home from the Guildhall area.

‘Police would like to hear from anybody who saw the group following the man, or indeed the assault.’

One of the suspects is described as being a 6ft 1in tall man with dark hair.

At the time of the attack on Friday he was wearing a blue jumper with leather shoulder patches.
