MAGISTRATES have spared a man jail after he was caught with a machete.

David Keet, 31, of Mayles Lane, Knowle, was caught with the blade at junction 11 of the M27, the Fareham turn-off.

He was seen with the knife on September 28.

District judge Anne Arnold imposed a 12-week prison sentence suspended for a year at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

Keet must complete 100 hours of unpaid work. He must pay a £115 victim surcharge and £185 prosecution costs.

The machete was forfeited and ordered to be destroyed.
