Man charged after arson attack at Portsmouth block of flats

A man has been charged with arson after a fire that saw three firefighters and two residents treated in hospital.

Peter Arrandale, 59, has been charged after the blaze at the Handsworth House tower block in Quinton Close, Portsmouth at about 4am on Thursday.

It happened on the 13th floor of the 17-floor block. Arrandale, of Quinton Close, appeared before Portsmouth magistrates on Saturday after being charged with arson with intent to endanger life or recklessness as to whether it would be endangered. He will next appear on October 28.
