A MAN has been charged after an assault near a church in Gosport.

Stephen Craig Jones, 35, of Chantry Road, Gosport, faces charges of wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and assaulting a person occasioning them actual bodily harm.

It follows an attack on a 36-year-old man outside the church of St Thomas the Apostle, at the junction of Elson Lane and Elson Road, during the early hours of Sunday.

Jones was due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court today.
