AROUND £400 cash was taken from an angling shop after a burglary.

Paige’s Fishing Tackle, in Station Road, Hayling Island, was targeted by crooks.

The burglary happened between 2.40pm and 3pm on Thursday after a staff member had locked up the shop to run an errand.

Officers were patrolling the area following two reports of burglary on Hayling Island the previous day and noticed two men acting suspiciously.

Freddie Malcolm Cartwright, 34, of Range Green, Tipner, has been charged with burglary other than a dwelling and appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court yesterday. He was given conditional bail to appear at magistrates on July 24 for trial.

A second 34-year-old man, from Portsmouth, is still being questioned.
