A MAN is due in court today in connection with a vicious attack on a 19-year-old last week.

Gary John Nash, 21, Spring Garden Lane, Gosport, was charged late last night with offences relating to the incident on Parham Road, Gosport, on August 28:

He was charged with possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, namely a sock containing a weighted ball, and robbery.

Nash was also charged with escaping from lawful custody, for allegedly escaping custody at Fareham police station yesterday. And he also faces a charge of allegedly assaulting a man in Fareham yesterday.

Nash was remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court.

An 18-year-old man arrested on suspicion of robbery was bailed pending further enquiries.
