A MAN who police found drunk and carrying a samurai sword on the streets has been told to expect jail.
Kevin Bailey, 26, of St Agnes Place, Chichester, appeared at Chichester Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to possessing an article with a blade or point in a public place on October 3 of this year.
The court heard that Bailey was drunk when police found him at The Hornet in Chichester with the large sword at around 12.30am.
He did not resist arrest.
Adjourning sentencing, judge Christopher Parker QC said: ‘Mr Bailey, drunk or not, and it’s possible that being drunk is not actually a mitigating but if anything it’s an aggravated factor.
‘You will be back here for sentencing, and it’s possible you will be sent straight to jail, something I am sure you are well aware of.
‘Do not misunderstand the fact that I am adjourning sentencing and giving you bail.’
Bailey is due to be sentenced on January 15.
