A THUG who assaulted a police officer has been told to stay in at night under a curfew.

Gary Chapman assaulted Sergeant Richard Thompson when police were called to a disturbance in Greywell Road, Havant.

The 30-year-old had a conditional discharge at the time for a previous offence of shoplifting.

Chapman, of Ashe Road, Havant, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer and admitted breaching the conditional discharge when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

He will have to wear an electronic tag and stay in between 7pm and 7am every day for four weeks. He was told to pay £100 in compensation to Sgt Thompson.
