CCTV played in Portsmouth Crown Court showed Craig Ball, 33, charging at his victim behind the bar at the Hayling Billy pub in Elm Grove, Hayling Island,

He grabbed the 24-year-old victim in a bear hug and latched on to his victim’s right ear with his teeth, the court was told.

Prosecutor Martyn Booth said the victim, who had joined Ball and his friends for a night out, had been approached by 33-year-old Ball’s girlfriend in a bar before the attack.

Judge Roger Hetherington sentenced Ball, of Moss Close, Liss, to four years in prison.

Judge Hetherington said: ‘This would have had serious consequences for the victim.

‘He had, of course, considerable pain at the time.’

The court heard Ball was remorseful after the attack.

Ball pleaded guilty causing grievous bodily harm with intent over the September 7 incident last year.

He was told he will serve half of the sentence in prison.

He was arrested the day after the attack on his victim.
