A MAN was knocked unconscious after being punched in the face in an early morning attack.

The 20-year-old victim was left with a chipped tooth and grazing and bruising to his face and lips.

The assault happened some time between 1.45am and 3am on Friday, September 25.

It took place in Portsmouth’s centre, at the bottom of the steps that lead down to Alec Rose Lane from from Guildhall Square, between the civic offices and the entrance to the city library.

Hampshire Constabulary has appealed for witnesses and is looking for a white man who is about 20 years old.

The man is thought to be about 6ft, of average build and with short blond hair.

Police Staff Investigator Catherine Cole said she wanted to hear from anyone who might know about the assault. She said: ‘Were you out that night?

‘Do you know anyone that might have mentioned that they were involved in this incident?

‘I would urge anyone with information to get in touch with us as soon as possible.’
