Man ordered to pay up after ambulance punch at Portsmouth hospital

A MAN has been ordered to pay £200 after punching the wing mirror of an ambulance, putting it out of action for two days.

George Vinall, 23, from Botley Drive, Havant, punched the South Central Ambulance Service vehicle when he was at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham at about 2.30pm on February 20.

After Vinall pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court, magistrate Giacomo Mosca ordered Vinall to pay £200 in compensation to Scas.

The court heard Vinall suffered from psychosis and had earlier been at a party where he was attacked and suffered several blows to the head. He had also just had an argument with his girlfriend and lashed out in a fit of anger when he punched the ambulance.

The outburst, which lasted under five seconds, damaged the indicator inset in the mirror.

Mr Mosca said: ‘The ambulance belongs to all of us, including you, and two days out of action is serious. You realise the magnitude of what you’ve done.’
