Man remains in critical condition after attempted murder attack

AN ATTEMPTED murder investigation has been launched after a man sustained life-threatening injuries in an attack.

The 25-year-old man is today fighting for his life in hospital.

A 21-year-old woman was arrested yesterday on suspicion of attempted murder and is still being questioned by detectives.

Last night two uniformed police officers stood guard outside the flat where the attack happened in Timpson Road, Fratton.

Inside forensic investigators have been trawling through evidence to determine what happened.

Police were called to Timpson Road in the early hours of Saturday.

A man was found to have life-threatening injuries in a first-floor flat.

He was taken by ambulance to Southampton General Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Police have not revealed the nature of his injuries.

Yesterday evening there were two police cars parked in the street.

The flat is part of a row and accessed via a communal balcony.

Neighbours were in a state of shock and some were unaware of what had happened.

One woman, who did not want to be named, said: ‘The woman had only moved in a couple of weeks ago – that’s all I know.’

A man who lives nearby told The News: ‘I’m shocked because it used to be a lovely old couple living there.

‘Not long ago they moved out.

‘My wife said a young lady had moved in, but not a family.

‘Over the past couple of weeks the council have been doing some refurbishments there. They hadn’t properly moved in.’

He added: ‘My reaction is worry because I have young children.

‘But the police have said there’s nothing to worry about.’

Another woman said: ‘I’m shocked. This is such a quiet area.’

News of the incident has been shared many times on social media. One Facebook poster wrote: ‘Devastating – keep fighting sweetheart.’

A statement from Hampshire police said: ‘We are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident and we have arrested a 21-year-old woman on suspicion of attempted murder.’
