Man stabbed in neck after fight in Portsmouth street

A MAN was stabbed in the neck after a fight in Portsmouth between two groups of people.

The 27-year-old, from the city, is in a serious condition at Southampton General Hospital.

Police are investigating the incident which happened between two groups around Newcome Road and Walmer Road, in Fratton, at 6.30pm yesterday.

A group of four men were approached by a second group of three to four people. A fight then took place, resulting in the victim getting stabbed.

Police said the second group then left the area in a silver Vauxhall Astra, possibly heading in the direction of Byerley Road.

Three other men in the group suffered minor injuries.

Three 18-year-old men, all from Portsmouth, have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. They are currently in police custody.

Detective Inspector Abigail Leeson, said: ‘We know the group of three to four people arrived in the area in a silver Vauxhall Astra. 

‘Witnesses have told us the vehicle had visible damage on it, which is not believed to have been caused in this incident. 

‘We understand this may cause concern to members of the community. 

‘We will be out and about in the community this evening so please approach our officers if you have any concerns.

‘We’d like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident, knows who the car belongs to, or has any other information that could assist this inquiry.
