A MAN armed with a hammer attempted to rob a jewellery shop.

At about 2.20pm on Wednesday, December 21, a man entered Roux at 27 jewellers in Marmion Road, Southsea.

After a couple of minutes he pulled a hammer from his jacket and smashed a glass display case.

A member of staff yelled at the man to get out of the shop and he ran off towards Victoria Road South.

There were two staff members and a customer in the shop at the time of the incident.

No-one was threatened or injured.

The man was black, very slim, and 6ft with short cropped hair.

He wore a navy blue-coloured puffa-style jacket.

Det Con Fiona Wright of Fratton CID, said the offender clearly wasn’t prepared for the shop owner’s response and ran off.
