A MAN has been knocking on doors asking for money to see his pregnant girlfriend in hospital as a ruse to carry out burglaries.

The suspect knocked on a door in Hartlands Road, Fareham at about 8.30pm on September 14. A teenager who lived there answered the door and left the front door for about 20 seconds as he went upstairs to ask his mum if she had any spare cash.

It was later found that a Kindle in a purple leather-effect case had been taken from a telephone table by the front door.

The man at the door was white, 6ft, skinny, unshaven 30 to 35, and scruffy looking with bad teeth. He wore a white tracksuit top, blue jeans, and a faded green and brown checked flat cap.

He is known to have knocked on other doors in the area.

PC Samantha Gee said: ‘We would like to hear from anyone who also had this man knock at their door in similar fashion around this time or can identify him from the description given.’
