POLICE have released CCTV images following a violent assault in Portsmouth’s Guildhall Square.
Detectives need to speak to the man pictured wearing a white top in connection with the attack.
An argument took place between two groups of people at about 1.45am in the square.
The victim was hit in the face, causing him to fall unconscious to the ground.
Paramedics were called to the scene and he suffered a broken cheekbone.
The 23-year-old man, from Gosport, was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, for treament to his injuries.
The assault happened on Thursday, August 2, although details have just been released.
A 24-year-old woman, from Havant, has been arrested in connection with the assault and is on police bail until Monday.
Officers have carried out interviews with the victim and also examined the scene for evidence.
Police have now released these images as they continue their inquiry.
PC Michael Cox, who is investigating the incident, said: ‘Police would like the public’s help in identifying the man who is wearing a white T-shirt in the CCTV images.
‘So far we’ve been unable to trace the man and we’re releasing the CCTV stills in the hope that someone will recognise him.’
