POLICE have dismissed claims that burglars are using chalk to mark targeted homes.

Widely-shared Facebook and Twitter posts have claimed there are a number of markings that indicate whether the occupants are in, if the house is worth burgling and if residents are vulnerable.

But Hampshire police says the markings had previously been investigated and were linked to utility companies. Call 101 with any suspicions.
