Men appear in court for fly-tipping and littering in Gosport

Martin Good, from Lee-on-the-Solent, was seen dumping green waste at the Alver Valley Country Park, in Gosport.

He was prosecuted by the borough council and pleaded guilty to the fly-tipping offence which happened in October last year.

Good, of Portsmouth Road, was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a man from Leicester has appeared in court for dropping litter in Gosport high street.

Joe Waton was seen dropping the litter by an enforcement officer who gave him the chance to pay a fixed penalty of £75. Waton refused and was prosecuted by the council.

In court, he pleaded guilty and was fined £75, and ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Cllr Graham Burgess, chairman of the council’s community board, said: ‘We want people to take pride in where they live and to refrain from littering and disposing of rubbish on the streets.

‘In order to stop the unsightly littering and fly-tipping, our enforcement team patrols seven days a week and those caught will be fined or taken to court to reimburse for their behaviour.’
