MOTORISTS struggled against torrential rain and long tailbacks yesterday following a midday accident on the M27 motorway.

The crash took place yesterday morning at 11.25am when a BMW three series hit the motorway’s central reservation on the westbound carriageway at junction eight.

The accident happened during heavy rain which was already causing traffic to move slowly, leading to long delays for people travelling west.

The car blocked one lane of the motorway for 25 minutes causing traffic to queue back along the motorway towards Fareham.

Police were called and managed to move the car on to the motorway’s hard shoulder by 11.49am allowing traffic to flow freely.

No one was injured in the accident and the driver was checked over at the scene by paramedics.
