MP welcomes support for protecting public servants

A HAMPSHIRE MP has welcomed governmental support for a bill to protect public servants '“ such as nurses and prison officers '“ from violence.

The proposed Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) legislation aggravates offences such as assault and grievous bodily harm when carried out against public servants.

Meon Valley MP and the prime minister’s parliamentary private secretary George Hollingbery said: ‘Sadly, increasing numbers of public servants helping and protecting the public are subject to violence and this bill will create specific offences to protect these people who are just doing their job. I hope it will be become law as it has huge public and cross-party support.’
