A NEW chief executive is set to be appointed to lead an authority with a £2bn budget.
Following national competition for the role, John Coughlan is being recommended to lead Hampshire County Council.
A final decision will be made next Thursday.
Mr Coughlan is currently the deputy chief executive of the council, which oversees all schools, roads and other public services outside Portsmouth and Southampton.
Cllr Roy Perry, council leader, said Mr Coughlan’s abilities ‘shone through’.
